Training sites and facilities
The Medical Center complex comprises the Wayne State University School of Medicine (Gordon H. Scott Hall of Basic Medical Sciences, Helen V. Prentis Lande Building for Medical Research, and Elliman Building for Research) and the following hospitals.
Central campus complex includes:

- Hutzel Women's Hospital
- Perinatal Research Institute
- Karmanos Cancer Center
- Children's Hospital of Michigan
- University Health Center/Detroit Receiving Hospital
Other facilities include:
The hospital complex annually handles more than 300 necropsies (not counting forensic cases), 9,000,000 laboratory analyses, 36,000 surgical pathology cases, and 100,000 cytologic specimens. University Laboratories serves as a reference laboratory for many regional medical facilities and carries on busy out-reach services. The diagnostic laboratories are modern, highly automated, and computerized. Diagnostic facilities are fully equipped and include electron microscopy, cell culture facilities, cytogenetics laboratories, HLA laboratories, flow cytometry, and state-of-the-art molecular biology and molecular diagnostics facilities.
